How To Register A Domain Name

After you have selected a domain name, your next step is to register it.

Please be aware that just because you have selected a particular domain name does not necessarily mean that that domain name is available for registration. It may be necessary to be creative with your naming strategies.

Once you have selected a domain name, the next step is to visit a Domain Name Registrar.

The only registrar I recommend is NameCheap. They are inexpensive (domains cost about $10 per year for registration) and easy to use. To register your domain name, simply visit NameCheap and look for the box at the top that looks like this:

Enter the domain name you’ve selected in the box below the red #1. Select the extension you’d prefer under the red #2 and then click the red button that says “Search”.

The NameCheap website will inform you whether the domain is available and advise you on how to register the domain if it is available. If the domain is not available, simply search again for a different name.

  1. Bryan,

    Is the following too long?

No, that’s not too long. — Bryan Ellis

  2. Hi Bryan,
What do you think of GoDaddy or should we stick with NameCheap?

    Thanks,
    Dennis

Without a doubt, use NameCheap rather than GoDaddy. GoDaddy has some over-aggressive policies that can result in your domain being shut down without any actual wrong-doing. — Bryan Ellis
